“Man with a Load of Mischief” is a 1967 chamber musical by Ben Clifton and John Tarver. Set in 1820, this romantic story of two couples who meet unexpectedly at a country inn boasts an engagingly tuneful score, a hero and heroine who sparkle In this sophisticated musical drama, four travelers, unexpectedly forced to spend the night together at a country inn, confront their ambitions, fears, and desires. By turns wistful and sardonic, playful and passionate, Man with a Load of Mischief is a rare gem of lyric theater that also seriously engages with issues of social justice and personal integrity.

To be performed at the Alleyway Theatre, Buffalo, NY, Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, June 5 at 2 pm. A pre-curtain lecture on  the historical and theatrical background of the show will be presented on Sunday, June 5 at 1:30 pm.

A longer illustrated lecture titled “Man with a Load of Mischief and Three Episodes in Theater History” will be available for viewing on the Opera-Lytes YouTube channel beginning on May 15, 2022.
