Opera-Lytes will present a double bill of “Trial by Jury” and “Mr Jericho” as matinees on September 18 & 19 and 25 & 26. Performances will take place outdoors at the Community Music School on Delavan Ave. Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons at CMS, beginning on August 8. The music director is Mark Vona and Lisa Berglund is the stage director. Complete videos of both one-act operettas are available on YouTube for your reference. Each show is roughly 30 minutes in length.

Participation in the chorus of “Trial By Jury” is open to all interested community members aged 15 or older. Please advise Lisa Berglund at [email protected] by July 31 if you would like to join the chorus. If you are interested in a principal part, and you have previously sung a solo role with Opera-Lytes, send an email with the role(s) that you would like to perform to [email protected] by July 31. If you have not previously sung a principal role with the company, you may audition by sending a video clip of yourself singing a verse of an operetta aria or classic Broadway song, along with a resume or description of your musical and theatrical experience and a statement as to which role(s) interest you, to [email protected] by July 31.

“Mr Jericho” is a witty five-character Victorian operetta about a clever entrepreneur, a bankrupt nobleman, and the inevitable charming heroine and her dragon of a mother. It is by Harry Greenbank and Ernest Ford and was first performed as a curtain-raiser for the Savoy operas. Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Trial by Jury” presents a breach of promise lawsuit, settled to the romantic (and financial) advantage of all involved.
