Opera-Lytes presents a double bill of “Mr Jericho” and “Trial by Jury,” September 18, 19, 25 and 26. All performances will take place OUTDOORS at 2 pm at the Community Music School, 217 East Delavan Avenue, Buffalo, NY.

These two Victorian curtain-raisers are ideal family entertainment, poking fun at the timeless establishment structures of the law and business with tuneful absurdity. Tickets are $20 (adult) and $15 (student) and may be purchased online (below) or at the door.

In “Trial by Jury,” the show that cemented the brilliant partnership of Gilbert and Sullivan, the lovely Angelina (Tediyra Barton-Harris) is suing Edwin (Paul Waara) for breach of promise of marriage. Trust the Learned Judge (Ted Smeltz) to come up with a creative solution that satisfies all parties, romantically and financially! Also featuring Maria Goodrich (Counsel for the Plaintiff) and Ray Castro (Usher), with the Opera-Lytes Chorus.

The rarity “Mr Jericho” is a delightful farce about Horace (Paul Berglund), the son of a bankrupt nobleman (Bruce Woody), who is working unsuccessfully as a bus driver–as the curtain rises, he has just crashed his bus. His love for Winifred (Emily Barger) seems hopeless until jam magnate Mr Jericho (Nicholas Czaplicki), arrives to court her widowed mother (Lynn Hodson) and save the day. “Mr Jericho” was written by Sullivan’s student Ernest Ford, while Harry Greenbank supplied the hilarious libretto. Opera-Lytes is proud to present the Western New York premiere of this comic bon-bon.

The Opera-Lytes production allows for socially distanced seating. Masks are required for access to the restrooms; otherwise, as the production is outdoors, masking is recommended but optional.
