Andrew made his debut with Opera-Lytes, and Gilbert and Sullivan, with HMS Pinafore in the fall of 2003. Since then, he has performed over twenty shows, and about that many concerts, with the group. Favorite roles consist of Strephon (Iolanthe), Giuseppe (Gondoliers), Florian (Princess Ida), Dick Deadeye (HMS Pinafore), and Benny Southstreet (Guys & Dolls). Andrew has also been seen performing throughout the WNY area with such companies as Coop’s Spotlight Productions, Western Door Playhouse and The Mystery Company.
Lisa Berglund directed the Opera-Lytes productions of Patience (2016), Princess Ida (2015), The Pirates of Penzance (2013), Iolanthe (2012), The Gondoliers (2010) and Signor Deluso (2009). On-stage she has appeared as Eulalie McKechnie Shinn (The Music Man), Mrs. Partlet (The Sorcerer), Cousin Hebe (HMS Pinafore) and Ernestina Money (Hello, Dolly!); she also regularly sings with the chorus. For Opera-Lytes’ education programming since 2013, Lisa has written and presented pre-performance lectures, and she has scripted narratives for the company’s educational concerts including Opera on Broadway, The World of Gilbert and Sullivan, and An Evening at the Savoy. Lisa is an Active Member of the Chromatic Club and a chorus member of the Savoynet Performing Group, 2013 International Champions and regular participants in the Annual International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, a competitive festival held in Harrogate, England. In her copious free time Lisa is Chair of the English Department at Buffalo State College. She has published widely on the history of the printed book, eighteenth-century studies and lexicography.
Melvyn Churchill was a Founder-Member (1994) of KSL Productions, which morphed into “Opera- Lytes” for the Opening Ceremony of the 1997 International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Philadelphia. Mel has been on the Board of Opera-Lytes since 1999, has appeared in some 40 Opera-Lytes productions and has sung each of the 13 “Savoy Operas” of Gilbert & Sullivan, including Pirates of Penzance (Major-General Stanley), HMS Pinafore (Sir Joseph Porter), Iolanthe (Lord Chancellor), The Sorcerer (John Wellington Wells), Ruddigore (both as Robin Oakapple & Sir Despard), Patience (Colonel Calverly) & The Grand Duke (Rudolph). He was born in England, strafed by a German fighter in the “London Blitz” and came to the USA in 1964. He currently sings with the Amherst Community Choir and the Buffalo Choral Arts Society and has performed with the Newgate Singers (London), The Amherst Gilbert & Sullivan Society (1978-1988), Western New York Opera, Trinity Lutheran Concert Choir, Nostalgia, & The Freudig Singers. He has been a Professor of Chemistry at the University at Buffalo since 1975 and married Gayle Nason, our President, in July 2003.
